Are kids now ruling the roost in some families? Is it our own fault? Dr. Leonard Sax, a family physician, psychologist and author, feels there’s been a collapse in parenting and that it’s time for many of us to grow up. He believes that the bosses in modern parenthood are the kids, and this is partially responsible for kids being:
- overweight
- over-medicated
- anxious
- disrespectful (not only themselves, but people around them)
An example by Dr. Sax in the Maclean’s article was a parent asking his child to do him a favor and eat her peas. This, he says, is how adults relinquish parental authority and have lost confidence in themselves.
