If you like to have a fire burning often, don't forget an annual, professional flue inspection and cleaning. Because I burn large amounts of wood, every fall I set a date to have my wood-burning fireplaces cleaned. This prevents flue fires, a dangerous and very real possibility.
The company I use also cleans my dryer vent which, if not cleaned, can also cause a home fire. Set up the cleaning every year at the same time so you won't forget.
