Mardi Gras Crafts for Kids: Make a Fun, Colorful Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Crafts Holidays Activities

It's time for Mardi Gras! Why not celebrate Fat Tuesday and all the festivities and culture that goes along with it with your kids? A fun craft is a kid-friendly way to do that.

Parades are a huge part of the Mardi Gras festivities. And what kid doesn't love a parade? With just a shoebox or other cardboard box, kids can make their own DIY Mardi Gras float craft project. Supply your kids with fun, colorful items to decorate their shoebox floats with, like feathers, beads, pipe cleaners, gift wrap bows, ribbon, construction paper, streamers, glitter, Mardi Gras party decorations, plastic babies (from those delicious king cakes!), coins and fabric. Scissors and glue is all they'll need to get creative!

Use their finished Mardi Gras craft to decorate the house or let them make a few and have their pretend parade. Let the good times roll!

You'll need:

Here's how to make it:

  1. Cut construction paper or fabric to cover the box. Let your child get creative, but typical Mardi Gras colors are purple, green and gold.
  2. Glue on the construction paper or fabric. Allow to dry.
  3. Using desired embellishments, let your kids go wild and create a float that's as unique as they are.
