Jennifer Lopez & Shakira Debate: 3 Reasons Why I Loved the 2020 Super Bowl® Halftime Show Opinion Headlines

I know some people weren't too happy with the Super Bowl® halftime show, saying it sexualized women and it was too racy for a family show. I never for a moment thought it was negative in any way.

Here's why I loved it:

  • I felt it empowered Shakira and J.Lo. They are both strong, athletic and confident women who chose to represent their abilities and culture. Nobody pressured them, I am quite sure of that. They killed it, in my opinion.
  • They were covered up, unlike Adam Levine last year who was shirtless the whole time – and many loved it. The ladies this year were covered, and while it might have been sexy, so what!? Women should be able to wear whatever they want, and dance however they want. You see less clothing and more sexuality on regular cable TV shows and most social media apps. I am sure this show wasn't remotely shocking to most kids. If they were super young, why would they be up at that time of night anyway?? When my kids were young if there was something I didn't want them to see, I diverted their attention. The show didn't last that long. If someone was offended they could turn it off.
  • They were extremely athletic and showed women can be strong. I don't care how old they are, this is a great example for women and girls of all ages. Strong, confident women ROCK!!

That is my two cents. And I plan to take up belly dancing now to thanks to Shakira.

"Strong, confident women ROCK!!" You said it, Dawn Taylor ! What an empowering show by two very strong and confident women. Confidence is sexy, and that just shone from them the whole time. Bold and brave came to mind as well, as the messages they delivered went much deeper than just the singing and dancing. Thank you for sharing your perspective on this!

Elisa All Schmitz 30Seconds I was shocked by some of the negativity especially considering the stuff you see on tv regularly. These are two gorgeous, diverse women killed it and somehow I wonder if two more mainstream women danced if there would have been the same backlash. They were amazing!
