Getting Along With Your Ex: Sometimes It's OK to Look Back & Laugh (Together) Relationships Single Moms Tip of the Day

Every other weekend, I drive my daughter to a halfway point between where her father and I live. It takes about an hour and 15 minutes. Sometimes, she starts to whine or cry within the first 30 minutes of the trip. "Mommmmm, I don't want to go to Dad's!" While other times she waits until the parking lot of the switch to tell me she doesn't want to go.

Seeing my ex-husband isn't the highlight of my Friday, but I know above all, he is a good dad and she will be well cared for and loved during her weekends with him. As time passes, we are able to exchange pleasantries and even sit next to each other at functions without issue. (Trust me, it's taken a long time for that to happen!)

Today, as my daughter was staging her peaceful protest, he reminded me of a time we had together, long before we were parents (and divorced). I smiled when he mentioned it, and off my daughter went with him.

After I started driving home, I laughed for a good 15 minutes about the memory he shared. Sometimes, it's nice to look back and remember – and laugh.

OMGoodness, I can so relate to this! You are so right. It is a very good thing when this happens. Moving forward positively is key (so that looking back with some fond memories is possible). Thank you, Jessica Lawrence !
