Creative Writing: How to Put Your Writing Skills to Work & Give Back to the Community Activities Make a Difference
Sometimes you feel the need to write without any ulterior motives or monetary gains. You just want to share your talents to benefit others. Here are some suggestions:
- Help a person whose second language is English. Fill in a job application or write a letter.
- Decorate with words or quotations. Use stencils, vinyl stick on letters or wallpaper borders to enhance people's lives. Put them on school walls, libraries or teen centers. Get everyone involved with the process.
- Put a pamphlet together for a nonprofit or edit your club's newsletter.
- Compose greeting cards. Write an encouragement, get well or friendship card that shows your care and concern. Add your own individual touches or graphics. Distribute them to nursing homes, veterans or children's wards in hospitals.
- Write a poem or short story for that special person in your life. It can be for a memorable occasion or just any ordinary day.
- Make people aware of diverse ways of thinking. Send your opinions to websites or newspapers. If you are unhappy with your tax appraisal or upset about the demise of your theater district, write about it.
So, grab a block of time and create a writing opportunity. It’s a win-win situation.
