My Son Is Leaving for College: A Mom’s Diary Entry to Her College Freshman Motherhood Parenting Teens

You’re leaving for college in seven days. You’re nervous, excited, struggling with all the unknowns your beautiful mind is contemplating. You tell me you’re so overwhelmed with thoughts that when I encourage you to just speak one of them out loud, you just can’t.

Now here we are. You’re playing a video game online with friends. I’m laying on the bed in the same room hearing you chat with friends with your headphones on. You know I’m here. You want me to be.

Your voice sounds deeper to me now. You sit and sound like a man. Your hair has grown out long to just how you wanted it and it’s curly like mine. I know you’re OK with me being here with you now because you’re thinking the same thing I am.

You’re going away to college in seven days.
