Mardi Gras is the traditional parade before the season of Lent. The end of Mardi Gras is commonly known as "Fat Tuesday" because the next day begins Lent: 40 days of sacrifices before Easter – and it’s common to give up something for Lent. Once I gave up beer; once I gave up candy. And the hardest? My Diet Coke addiction! But Fat Tuesday is always a party. Want some quick ideas to participate? Here are a few:
- Make gumbo, shrimp, crab cakes, desserts, dips and snacks.
- Decorate a table with purple, gold and green beads and Mardi Gras masks!
- In the south, no Fat Tuesday is complete without a king cake (recipe coming!). Hide the baby in the cake and whoever gets that piece brings next year’s cake.
It can be a fun day for the whole family!
