Kids Starting to Not Believe In Santa? Try This Heartfelt Way to Handle a Bittersweet Milestone! Holidays Parenting

My son has been asking questions about Santa on and off since last Christmas. For as long as I could, I dodged his questions by asking him what HE thought. I didn’t know exactly how to respond and also wasn’t ready to face the fact that he was growing up. But finally I realized that he needed some answers from me.

So I wrote him a letter.

He loved it. He even asked if he could keep the letter and found a special place for it. It was a sweet moment between us, one that I won’t soon forget. Since that time we’ve found ways to “play Santa” together for families in need in our area. While a part of me is still sad that he doesn’t believe in Santa, I've found that we can still keep the magic of Christmas alive in our home; we’ll just do it in different ways, and we’ll do it together.
