Getting kids ready for kindergarten means ensuring they know their ABCs and 123s, but it’s also important to prepare your child for independence. Kindergarten means being independent with self-help skills. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Can they open their lunch box, a yogurt, snack bag, and put a straw in their juice box?
  • Can they unzip their backpack and zip up their coat?
  • Can they wash hands without help?

Take time this summer to get them ready by practicing these skills. They are critical for a child's classroom success and they even help improve self-esteem!
