Girl Colors? Boy Colors? Why I Told My Child There's No Such Thing!

I want to raise boys who treat everyone with respect, and who don't put labels on people. But one day my kindergartener came home from school and told me a girl in his class said, "Purple is a girl's color." She even told him that he couldn't wear it! I told him to tell the entire Baltimore Ravens team that they had to change their uniforms. He laughed and said, "They are boys and they wear purple!"

What happened next? My son and I talked about how I always wear blue and he realized anyone can wear whatever color they want. Now I hope he shares that message with the rest of his class!
