DIY Aromatherapy Air Freshener: A Quick, Economical & Natural Way to Freshen Your Home!

Odors can build up in your home, and sometimes you need to do something special to freshen it. Does your home need a good freshening? Here's what I do: Boil citrus and herbs for a quick fix. In the picture below, I'm using lemons, oranges and basil. Here how:

  • Boil the mixture for a few minutes.
  • Turn down the heat and let it simmer on the stove.

It's an economical way to have your house smell fresh and clean. I do this often, especially this time of year when the windows aren't open as much and odors accumulate. I find that citrus works best, and I switch up the herbs. My favorites are basil, lemongrass and mint. But you can use whatever you like, such as:

  • tropical fruits
  • rosemary
  • cinnamon sticks
  • star anise
  • cloves
  • orange peels
  • rose petals

I used to do this all the time, Holly Budde . When my kids would eat an orange, I would take the peels and put them in a pot with some cinnamon sticks and let it go all day. Thanks for the reminder! I got a Scentsy and stopped doing it. But it really does make the house smell amazing. Going to try some rosemary in it now, too.
