How to Make Family Meals a Reality: Think Beyond Dinner! by Kristen Yarker, MSc, RD
You’ve likely heard about all the benefits of having family meals. But how can we make them happen in our busy, go, go, go lives? One answer: think beyond dinner.
- How about breakfast? A fantastic way to start the day!
- Another strategy is a bedtime snack/second dinner concept. It’s great for families where one parent works or gets home from commuting too late to eat dinner with the kids. In this scenario, the parent who is home earlier makes dinner and eats with the kids. When the later-arriving parent gets home, the kids join him or her at the table - the parent eating warmed-up dinner and the kids eating a bedtime snack.
Whatever you decide works best for your family, try to do it often. Family meals really do make a difference!
