Super Bowl® Safely: Guidelines for Drinking During the Big Game Men's Health Women's Health

The atmosphere of many Super Bowl® parties may make guests more likely to drink to excess. When drinking in groups, it's easy to get carried away. The inherent emotions attached to sporting events also can increase alcohol consumption, whether it’s celebrating a big play or drowning your sorrows following a poor performance.

Binge drinking is considered:

  • more than three drinks per day for women
  • more than four drinks per day for men

I recommend drinking in moderation, which is defined as one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men. One drink is considered:

  • 12 ounces of beer
  • 5 ounces of wine
  • 1.5 ounces of hard alcohol
