Gel Manicures: No-Chip Nails May Come With a Health Risk! Read This! Women's Health
While no-chip gel manicures may be convenient to keep your nails looking great, the jury is still out on the dangers associated with the UV rays used to dry the polishes. While chronic ultraviolet rays (UV) are a known cause of skin cancer, the small doses delivered in the salon may or may not contribute to your risk. Here are two tips to help:
- Apply a moisturizer with SPF 30 or greater on the hands and around the cuticles before exposing your nails to the rays just to be safe.
- Because the acetone used to remove the polish is very drying, it's a good idea to allow plenty of time in between manicures so nails can rehydrate.
