Melanoma: Why You Need to Schedule a Skin Cancer Screening Now Cancer Skin Conditions Family Health

I had a scare one summer when my dermatologist diagnosed me with malignant melanoma on my shin. Not only did I need surgery to remove a large piece of skin on my leg, I also had three lymph nodes removed and tested to see if the melanoma had spread. Luckily, we caught it early.

Having gone through this, I can't stress enough the importance of seeing a dermatologist once a year for a skin check. To me, it's as important as a yearly mammogram and could mean the difference between life and death.

I know, Skin screenings can detect melanoma and other skin cancers early. Skin cancer screening exams are the best way to catch melanoma and other skin cancers early, when they're easiest to treat. If you're at increased risk for skin cancer, you may need an annual skin cancer screening exam.
