Scoliosis Is a Common Ailment for Kids: What Parents Need to Know Kids' Health

Last year, during my 10-year-old daughter’s well-check visit, her doctor noticed she had a curvature of the spine – just barely – but enough for him to refer us to a spine clinic for X-rays. The X-rays concluded that she had scoliosis, a condition where the spine grows in a “C” or an “S” shape instead of a straight line.

There are over three million cases of scoliosis every year, according to John Hopkins Medicine, and most of which are caught during a child’s growth spurt, somewhere between the ages of 10 and 13. There is no cure for scoliosis, but it can be treated, often by wearing a brace.

A brace can seem awful at first, but we've since learned so much from Curvy Girls, a website created for girls by a girl who has scoliosis. Scoliosis isn't easy to live with, but it helps when you feel you're not alone!
