LAM: Rare Respiratory Disease Strikes Women in Childbearing Years Diseases/Disorders Women's Health

For most women childbearing years are some of their healthiest, but there’s a rare lung disease that strikes women during this time. Lymphangioleiomyomatosis, or LAM disease, almost exclusively affects women and can lead to respiratory failure and even death. Symptoms include:

• chronic cough 
• lung collapse
