Positive Parenting: How to Turn a Negative Into a Positive Teaching Moment!

As the wallpaper for his iPod, my son chose a photo of an overweight man being arrested who wore a shirt that said, “This really sucks.” He thought it was hilarious. I knew it had to go, but what a great teaching moment! A chance to say that behind the joke was negativity.

I didn’t say how he was being fed bad thoughts about life – one more gloomy message from adults who should know better. That all the small choices he makes add up and color his life.

He changed the picture to a dorky donkey that made us both smile. He was happy and I was glad to be his mom.
