Ladies, Getting Older Is a Gift: Take My #NoMakeup Challenge

When I first saw this picture, I saw age, dark lines and signs of getting older. But then I took a second look. Now I see memories, love and a life worth living. I am reminded how beautiful it is to grow older, wiser and more humbled.

I would tell my 20-year-old self to go for it! Take care of me first. To be the blessing in the room, and when hurt by others look for the lesson. I would further tell her to skip the madness and be whoever the hell she wants to be.

I look at this now with great pride that I am 46 and not too shabby without makeup. I see triumphs and a resilience to keep going. It is what I hope my girls see – a woman who will not quit.

I was challenged to take this picture and now I challenge you to show the world your true self. None of us need filters to make us beautiful. We have lived and loved, and at times, both lost and found our voices. This isn’t about glamour. It’s about us! Our kids are watching us. In fact, I was outside in 100-degree heat with the kids when this was taken.

We should never criticize ourselves for getting older. It is a privilege denied to many. Cheers to all of us for giving it a whirl!

Take the challenge with me! Show us your true self by sharing a photo with the hashtags #NoMakeup and #30Seconds.

I ditched the make up bag after my wedding day. Love being able to teach the next generation that God made them so beautiful, why mess with perfection?
