Emotional Healing After Loss: How & Why to Say the Unsaid Goodbye by Roxane Goss
Often, it all happens so fast. They’re here one second and gone the next. Vanished – all life has left their body. We look about unable to comprehend what just happened. Unwilling to believe it. It’s so incredibly frightening and painful.
We think, wait just one minute, I didn’t get to say goodbye. I didn’t get to tell him I loved him. No last kiss. Often, there are so many things left undone and unsaid. Goodbye is one of those things that many of us miss out on saying.
Even though my husband was in the intensive care unit of the hospital after he had a “widowmaker” heart attack, I never once allowed myself to believe he wasn’t coming home. That left so many things unsaid. Including, goodbye.
Through my Grief Recovery Method Specialist Certification training, I learned how crucial it is for us to complete the relationship with our loved one. We need to look into our heart to find and say those things that were left unsaid or we felt were unheard.
Once we release all those things, we find emotional healing. As a result, we are then able to experience our fond memories without so much pain. We start to recover with a renewed sense of hope and meaning in life.
