Millions of people worldwide suffer from ME/CFS. According to the National Institutes of Health, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a "complex, multifaceted disorder characterized by extreme fatigue and a host of other symptoms that can worsen after physical or mental activity, but do not improve with rest." Here are some symptoms of ME/CFS:
- recurring throat ache
- swollen lymph nodes
- extreme tiredness
- tinnitus
- hypersensitivity to bright lights
- hypersensitivity to loud noises
- problems with balance
- feeling feverish, night sweats, hypersensitivity to temperature extremes
- non-refreshing sleep/sleep disturbances
- post-exertional malaise, symptom exacerbation
- visual or reading fatigue, difficulty focusing on images
- short-term memory difficulties
- ongoing flu-like malaise
