How Clean Are Your Family's Toothbrushes? Here's Why It's So Important! by Amanda Armstrong

How Clean Are Your Family's Toothbrushes? Here's Why It's So Important!

My children seem to have more toothbrushes than teeth. But having more than one option allows me to keep their toothbrushes clean and available any time. Why is this so important? It can help keep them from getting sick. Here are a couple tips on keeping your family's toothbrushes clean:

  • Use a bottle cleaner container in your dishwasher to clean used toothbrushes regularly when you do a load of dishes. The sanitation cycle helps kill germs and bacteria that tends to collect in toothbrushes. Not only will this save you money the next time your child gets sick and you have to buy a new one, but it also may help prevent them from getting sick in the first place.
  • Keep the clean toothbrushes in their own holder in the bathroom. Toothbrushes that touch can spread germs.
  • Soak your toothbrushes in germ-fighting mouthwash at least once a week. (Margaret Steck recommends this, too!)
