About 50 percent of women experience hair loss after pregnancy. It usually occurs around three months after childbirth. Most likely the cause is increased estrogen levels. Estrogen stimulates hair growth, so the drop in estrogen levels after pregnancy can cause hair loss. This should be temporary and moms will have their same level of hair back by one-year postpartum.
If hair loss is excessive talk to your doctor – it can be a sign of postpartum hypothyroidism.
