- 3 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup flour (all-purpose or gluten-free 1:1 flour)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 cup pecans, chopped (optional)
Here's how to make it:
- Put the dark chocolate and butter into a saucepot over low heat. Cook, stirring often, until the chocolate and butter melt together. Remove from heat.
- Beat the eggs in a mixing bowl until they turn light yellow. (You can use a whisk or an electric mixer.)
- Add the sugar and beat well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Stir the mixture into the wet ingredients. (For gluten-free brownies, use gluten-free flour.)
- Stir in the melted chocolate and vanilla. Fold in the pecans, if using.
- Pour the batter into an 11x7-inch baking pan. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 20 to 23 minutes. Do not overbake! (If you overbake the brownies, they will be dry.)
- Remove and cool before cutting into squares. Store the brownies in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
