We love drinking white wine during the warmer summer months, but sometimes we like to switch things up and have a light summer cocktail. I was introduced to this light and refreshing wine cocktail recipe while I visited my family in Europe.

The Hugo Spritz first originated in the northern part of Italy as an alternative to the very popular Aperol Spritz. The Hugo Spritz uses the floral, and slightly sweet, elderflower liqueur with prosecco, lime and soda water to make such a light a refreshing summer drink.

To make this Italian cocktail recipe you will need just five simple ingredients. Here is your shopping list for this European spritz recipe: elderflower liqueur, prosecco, soda water, fresh mint leaves and a lime for juicing and slicing.

Ingredients

• 1/2 ounce elderflower liqueur
• 4 ounces prosecco
• 1 - 2 ounces soda water
• 8 mint leaves (divided)
• 1/2 a lime, juiced

Here's how to make it: 

1. Muddle 4 mint leaves with a mortar and pestle. Add them to a glass with the liqueur. (You can also place 4 mint leaves in a glass with the liqueur and muddle and let sit for 2 minutes.) 
2. Add the prosecco, lime juice and soda water. 
3. Add ice. Stir. 
4. Add the remaining mint leaves. Pour into a glass and garnish with a lime slice, if desired. This recipe can easily be multiplied and made by the pitcher.
