Fudgy Espresso Brownies Recipe Is Something Very Special (9 Ingredients) Desserts Cakes/Cupcakes Snacks Gluten-free Low Sodium Recipes
My husband likes to think of himself as a brownie connoisseur because we've made so many brownie recipes that he's come to know what he likes best about his favorite dessert. At the top of his list is that the brownies have to be rich and fudgy – super moist inside with shiny tops and crisp outer edges. If this sounds like your kind of brownie, then you will love what I'm about to share with you. This rich and fudgy espresso brownies recipe is something very special!
What makes this brownie recipe special is the "secret ingredient" that enhances their flavor: espresso powder. Espresso powder is deep, rich espresso coffee beans that are brewed, dried then made into powder form. When you add espresso powder to chocolate desserts, the complex flavor makes them richer without necessarily adding coffee flavor. That's why the espresso powder in this chocolatey brownie recipe is a secret ingredient. Not that it's secret, but it's a way to make the brownies even richer and more unexpectedly delicious.
As an added bonus, these decadent brownies are very easy to prepare. All you need are nine ingredients and about 45 minutes until you're in chocolate paradise. Here are the delicious ingredients you'll need to gather: cocoa powder (check out the health benefits of cocoa powder), granulated sugar, powdered sugar, salt, flour, espresso powder, canola oil, water and eggs. The chocolate chips and chopped walnuts are optional (but highly recommended).
These extravagant brownies make a delicious dessert, but we find ourselves sneaking them as a sweet snack throughout the day. They make great gifts for family and friends, too. After all, sharing is caring!
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 35 to 45 minutes (ovens vary)
Total Time: 45 to 55 minutes
Servings: 16
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup flour (all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour)
- 1 tablespoon espresso powder
- 1/2 cup canola oil
- 2 tablespoons water
- 3 large eggs
Optional Ingredients
- 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
Here's how to make it:
- In a large mixing bowl, add the cocoa powder, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, salt, flour and espresso powder. (Dutch-process cocoa adds depth of flavor, but you also can use regular cocoa powder.)
- Whisk to combine. (To make these brownies gluten-free, use gluten-free flour.)
- If using the chocolate chips and walnuts, add them now and stir to combine. Add the canola oil, water and eggs. Stir to combine. (I added 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips and 3/4 cup chopped walnuts for added flavor and texture.)
- Spread the batter into an 8x8-inch baking pan that's been lined with parchment paper. Ensure that it's evenly distributed and that the top is smooth.
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 35 to 45 minutes, or until brownies are moist but not wet inside and are crispy on the outside.
- Allow brownies to cool for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving.
- Store leftover brownies in an airtight container. These brownies also can be frozen.
