Here is what you need to gather so you can make this famous peach cobbler recipe: flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, an egg, evaporated milk, water, butter, fresh or frozen peaches, vanilla extract, fresh lemon juice, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon.

Serve this sweet fruit cobbler for dessert with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or with whipped cream. During hot Texas summers, you can eat your dessert all day long!

Ingredients 

Batter 

• 1 cup flour
• 3/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
• 1 egg
• 1 1/2 ounces evaporated milk
• 4 ounces water
• 2 ounces melted butter

Peach Filling

• 3 pounds fresh peaches or frozen peaches, thawed 
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
• pinch of nutmeg
• pinch of cloves
• 2 pinches of ground cinnamon
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 3/4 cup water

Recipe Notes

• Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.

• You could also bake this peach cobbler in a cast iron skillet.

• Adjust the amounts of spices to fit your tastes.

Here's how to make it: 

1. For the batter, preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar and baking powder. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, evaporated milk and water. Add wet ingredients to dry, and mix to form a batter. Ladle butter to coat bottom and sides of 13x9-inch baking dish. Ladle batter onto butter. Spread evenly, but do not mix.
2. For the peach filling, in a bowl, mix together all ingredients, adding water last. Spread mixture evenly over batter, being careful not to mix the two.
3. Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F and bake 45 to 50 minutes more, or until done.
