Red Wine Hot Chocolate Recipe + Warm Blanket = Best Winter Wine Night Cocktails Beverages Desserts Gluten-free

Give me a glass of red wine, some good dark chocolate and a warm fluffy blanket and I'm in heaven. Same goes for a mug of hot chocolate and a warm blanket. I've never thought of combining the two until I scrolled by a red wine hot chocolate recipe. What?

The creamy hot chocolate cocktail recipe uses a whole bottle of red wine. Yep, you'll need to make this hot cocoa recipe when you're having friends and family over! To make this spirited hot chocolate you will need semisweet chocolate chips, brown sugar, cocoa powder, whole milk, a bottle of red wine, vanilla extract and ground cinnamon. The ingredients cook up in a saucepot until thick and rich. Delicious!

Ladle the hot chocolate into coffee mugs or even wine glasses or goblets. Serve the spiked hot chocolate for dessert or grab a mug, your favorite winter blanket and sip while you're watching a movie or that new Netflix series. And what a fun beverage to serve on Valentine's Day. Cheers!

Recipe Notes

  • Instead of semisweet chocolate chips, try dark chocolate or milk chocolate.
  • Like spicy hot chocolate? Add a sprinkle of ground cayenne pepper.
  • To keep the hot chocolate warm, put it into a slow cooker on low.

Here's how to make it:

  1. Put the chocolate chips, brown sugar, cocoa powder and milk into a large saucepot. Cook over medium-low heat, whisking, until chocolate is melted and ingredients thoroughly combined.
  2. Add the wine and cook for about 2 more minutes or until the mixture simmers (do not let it boil).
  3. Turn the heat off and stir in the vanilla and dash of cinnamon.
