Easy American Flag Decorated Pretzels Recipe Are July 4th Festive Holidays Desserts

I love a party theme! If you’re planning a July 4th gathering or are attending one and want to bring something yummy to share, why not choose something that’s Fourth of July festive? Of all the red, white and blue desserts I’ve seen over the years, I think these flag pretzels may be my favorite.

For starters, I love chocolate-covered pretzels. There’s just something about that sweet and salty combination! Also, this is a fun patriotic dessert to make with the kids. They can do the most important part; they can be the “drizzlers” and "sprinklers!"

Apart from this treat being holiday appropriate, tasty and fun, there are plenty of other reasons to love these homemade decorated pretzels: they're easy to make, budget-friendly, have only two ingredients and are a hit with kids and adults. All you need to make these July 4th flag pretzels is a bag of red, white and blue candy melts and pretzel twists.

Recipe Notes

  • Store any leftover pretzels in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

Here's how to make it:

  1. Line a cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper. Place the candy melts in three separate microwave-safe bowls, based on color. Microwave the bowl of white candy melts in 30 second increments. Stir after each 30 second interval until the white chocolate is completely melted.
  2. Dip the pretzels in the bowls of white melted chocolate. Use a fork to ensure each pretzel gets coated with the white chocolate on both sides. Then tap the fork on the side of the bowl to remove any excess from the pretzel.
  3. Microwave the two remaining bowls of candy melts in 30 second increments. Stir after each 30 second interval until the chocolate is completely melted. Using a fork, drizzle the blue and red melted candy over the white covered pretzels to complete the July 4th theme. Sprinkle star sprinkles on the blue part, before the chocolate hardens.
  4. Place the pretzels on the prepared cookie sheet with wax paper. Let the pretzels dry, approximately 1 hour at room temperature or 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
