Walleye is a popular freshwater whitefish in the perch family. Walleye are native to Canada, the Great Lakes, the Missouri River basin and the upper Mississippi River basin, according to the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). Walleye can be cooked any way other whitefish can, but we're partial to this crisp and moist honey fried walleye recipe.
For this fried fish recipe you'll need walleye fillets (check out the health benefits of fish), honey, an egg, crushed crackers, flour, salt, black pepper and ground cayenne pepper. The fish are first dipped into the honey and egg, then into the seasoned flour and crushed cracker mixture. Then you fry the fish until cooked through and golden brown (it takes just a few minutes).
