Recipe Notes
- For a gluten-free dinner, use gluten-free flour and gluten-free Worcestershire sauce.
- You could use bone-in chicken for this recipe, but that will affect cooking time as they take longer to cook through. Chicken should have an internal temperature of 165 degrees F before it's safe to serve.
- Pounding the chicken breasts to an even thickness speeds up cooking and ensures even cooking.
Here's how to make it:
- In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning and paprika. Season the chicken with salt and pepper, then dredge in the seasoned flour (save the leftover flour).
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until golden and cooked through, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Remove to a plate.
- .Add the onions to the skillet. Cook the onions over medium-low heat until soft and caramelized, about 10 minutes. Add the garlic, thyme and butter. Once the butter has melted, add the leftover seasoned flour and stir until smooth.
- Slowly pour in the chicken broth and whisk. Add the heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce, if using. Put the chicken back into the skillet and heat through.
