How to Eat a Pomegranate: Here's an Easy Way to Get Pomegranate Seeds Out & Why You Should Eat This Healthy Fruit Fruit Cooking Tips

Even though pomegranates are labor-intensive fruit, their juicy seeds are so delicious and loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants that it's well worth the task. Here's how to pick, store and eat a pomegranate – and how to get the seeds out easily.

  • When selecting a pomegranate, look for deep, beet-red skin.
  • Store pomegranates on the counter, not the refrigerator.
  • Eat the seeds raw in salads, on yogurt or ice cream, or in recipes or cocktails.

Now the most important part! To get the seeds out to enjoy:

  1. Slice the pomegranate in half.
  2. Squeeze out the juice.
  3. Scrape out the contents and seeds with a spoon.
  4. Wriggle out the seeds by hand from the membrane.

This is a fun, yet messy, task! Enjoy!

I grew up eating pomegranates. We used to just bang on the bottom of the fruit that was cut in half with a spoon until they fell out into a bowl. Will try your method! Beth Aldrich, CHC, AADP, CNT
