I taught a holiday appetizer and dessert class recently at Elawa Farm. This hoisin shrimp was one of the recipes the group learned to make. The quick and easy shrimp recipe is great to serve at holiday parties and family get-togethers.

These hoisin shrimp cook in less than five minutes. The Asian sauce is flavorful and complements the shrimp perfectly. You can serve these shrimp as an appetizer or for dinner with a side dish.

Cuisine: Asian
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 12

  • 1 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons peeled, chopped fresh ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 pounds shrimp (size 31 - 40 or bigger), peeled and deveined, tail off
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • toasted sesame seeds
  • green onion, sliced

Here's how to make it:

  1. In a bowl combine the hoisin sauce, vinegar, ginger, garlic, soy sauce and sesame oil. Set aside.
  2. In a sauté pan, heat the olive oil and cook the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes or until they start to get pink. Add the sauce and simmer another 2 minutes.
  3. Transfer to a serving platter and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onion.
