Grandma's Easy Jell-O Pie Recipe Tastes Like Childhood (6 Ingredients, 15 Minutes) Desserts Pies Budget Recipes Fruit

Some dessert recipes remind you of your childhood – and some desserts are your childhood. My grandma made this easy, creamy Jell-O pie recipe all the time during the warmer months (in Texas, that's pretty much year-round). I remember opening her fridge up when we got there to see if she made this creamy dessert – and in what flavor. 

Most of the time it was cherry, which was my all-time favorite. You can use any flavor gelatin, but for me, cherry is the only way to go. My grandma would occasionally try a new flavor like strawberry-banana, raspberry or lime. It was good, but I always wished it was cherry after finishing my bowl. 

To make this Jell-O recipe you only need six simple ingredients (and one of them is water!): a box of gelatin, granulated sugar, boiling water, lemon juice, a can of evaporated milk and a box of vanilla wafers. The dessert is assembled and in the fridge in about 15 minutes. Quick and easy!

Ingredients

• 3 ounces (1 small box) Jell-O gelatin, any flavor
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup boiling water 
• 2 tablespoons lemon juice
• 12 ounces (1 can) evaporated milk, chilled
• 15 ounces (1 box) vanilla wafers

Here's how to make it: 

1. Dissolve the gelatin and sugar in the boiling water. Add the lemon juice. Fresh is best, so squeeze your own lemon juice if you can. Use any flavor gelatin.
2. Whip the evaporated milk until stiff.
3. While whipping, slowly pour in the gelatin mixture until well combined.
4. Put the vanilla wafers into a rectangular baking dish.
5. Pour the gelatin mixture over the vanilla wafers.
6. Top with crumbled vanilla wafers.
7. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Store the dessert covered in the fridge.
