Fried rice is always a hit and a fan favorite here on 30Seconds. With ham, green onions and peas, this easy Cantonese fried rice recipe is a quick, light dinner or a hearty side dish. It is the perfect fried rice recipe to whip on on busy nights or when you have leftover ham in the fridge.
To make this Asian fried rice recipe you will need the following ingredients: Chinese cooking wine (aka Shaoxing wine), oyster sauce, low-sodium soy sauce, butter, vegetable oil, green onions, cooked ham, fresh garlic, cooked basmati or jasmine rice, fresh or frozen peas (check out the health benefits of peas) and eggs (read about the health benefits of eggs). You could substitute chicken or shrimp for the ham. If you want a vegetarian dish, leave it out completely.
This high-protein recipe is packed with umami flavors, and delicious served on its own. But you could make a batch of crispy egg rolls to go with it as a side dish. Mmm.

Ingredients
Sauce
- 1 tablespoon Chinese cooking wine (Shaoxing wine)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons butter, melted
Rice
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 1 cup chopped cooked ham
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups cold basmati rice or jasmine rice
- 1/2 - 1 cup frozen peas or canned peas, drained
- 2 eggs
Here's how to make it:
- Combine all the sauce ingredients. Set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ham and green onion and cook, stirring about 1 to 2 minutes. Add the garlic and cook 30 seconds.
- Add the rice and cook, stirring, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add the peas.
- Pour in the sauce and cook, stirring, about 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, if needed.
- Make a whole in the rice and crack in the eggs. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until set, then stir to distribute through the rice. Serve. Store any leftover rice in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.
