Puff Pastry Apple Strudel Recipe: An Award-Winning Cook’s Easy Apple Strudel Recipe Anyone Can Make Desserts

My friend Craig Couture is an award-winning cook and I’m so proud of him. Some of his recipes seem like the recipes of an award-winning culinary pro. Admittedly, I’d never attempt to try them; sometimes I can barely make “regular” recipes well! Others, though, seem like regular folks like me could follow the recipes easily and make them – successfully!

This apple strudel recipe is a great example. It’s a quick and easy recipe with some ingredients that you may already have on hand. In addition, using the store bought puff pastry makes it easy to throw together for a delicious last-minute dessert (which could come in handy this holiday season!).

Cuisine: Hungary
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Total Time: 55 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 Granny Smith apples, sliced and peeled
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup sugar plus 3 tablespoons
  • 2 tablespoons cold butter, cut into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • all-purpose flour, for rolling the pastry
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry

Here's how to make it:

  1. Toss apples with lemon juice, then add the raisins, sugar and cold butter.
  2. Roll the puff pastry with flour to 1/8-inch thick.
  3. Spread the apple mixture over the bottom half of the puff pastry square, leaving an inch on the edge. Fold the top half over mixture and pinch together.
  4. Brush the whole strudel with melted butter then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Make diagonal slits across the top of the strudel. Place onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake in a preheated 375-degree F oven for 40 minutes, rotating at 20 minutes. Let cool slightly before serving.
