Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1/3 cup rice vinegar
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice wine or dry sherry
- 1 tablespoon sambal oelek
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
- 1 teaspoon low-sodium soy sauce
- red food coloring (optional)
Here's how to make it:
- Combine the cornstarch and water in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Put the remaining ingredients in a saucepot. Bring to a boil, stirring, and cook until sugar has dissolved.
- Add the cornstarch mixture and cook, stirring, about 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat and cool.
