Grandma's Amazing Meatloaf Recipe: A Moist Ground Beef Recipe From Back in the Day Budget-friendly Beef Dinner

Sometimes simple is better. Less is best. This easy meatloaf recipe like my grandma and mom used to make is the perfect example. This budget-friendly recipe has just a few simple ingredients. No expensive ingredients here.

The simple, old-fashioned meatloaf recipe is made with ground beef, eggs, breadcrumbs, onion, Worcestershire sauce, and salt and pepper. That's it. The ingredients are mixed together, formed into a meatloaf and baked in the oven for about 45 minutes or until cooked through.

If you like a sauce on top of your meatloaf, you could add ketchup, barbecue sauce or your favorite meatloaf topping right before the end of cooking time. Serve grandma's meatloaf with your favorite side dishes. Mashed potatoes and a vegetable were my grandma's top choices.

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Total Time: 55 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 onion, chopped fine
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper, or to taste

Here's how to make it:

  1. Combine all ingredients. Form into a loaf and place in a baking dish or meatloaf pan.
  2. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 45 minutes, or until cooked through. Let stand about 5 minutes before serving.

Yep, you're right about that. My grandma made a very simple meatloaf, too. Sometimes she'd get fancy and squirt some ketchup on the top. My mom used to put a can of cream of mushroom soup over the top right before it was done baking. Nothing fancy, but so good. Gwen Johnson
