Substitutions for Ricotta Cheese: Try This Easy Cooking Hack When You're Out of Ricotta Cheese Cooking Tips

Do you ever have all the ingredients for a pasta recipe except ricotta cheese? I do because, let's be honest, people only use it for recipes and don't normally keep it stocked. But I always have cottage cheese.

The problem is that cottage cheese usually won't work for recipes that call for ricotta cheese. Until now! A few days ago, I had everything but ricotta cheese for a recipe. Here is what I did:

  • Measure 1 cup of cottage cheese into a small mesh strainer.
  • Pack it down with a spoon to drain the liquid.
  • Put it into a mixing bowl and beat on high with an electric mixer, scraping the sides frequently until the pieces of cottage cheese are very small. It should look almost like ricotta cheese at this point.
  • Here is the trick: Stir in 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese.

It will be exactly like ricotta cheese!
