The flaky sea salt is optional, for serving. You brown the butter in a saucepot first, then add the brown sugar, heavy cream and salt. Stir to combine then allow mixture to boil for a minute or so. Remove from heat and allow mixture to sit for five minutes before sifting in the powdered sugar. • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, cut into pieces
• 2/3 cup dark brown sugar
• 1/2 cup heavy cream
• 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
• 1/2 cup powdered sugar, sifted
• flaky sea salt (optional, for serving)

Here's how to make it:

1. In a medium saucepot over medium heat, add the butter slices.
2. Cook, stirring constantly, until butter is melted and browned, about 5 minutes.
3. Add the brown sugar, heavy cream and salt. Stir to combine and bring to a boil. Over medium heat, allow mixture to boil for about 1 minute. Remove saucepot from heat and allow mixture to sit for about 5 minutes.
4. Sift the powdered sugar into the mixture.
5. Whisk until completely smooth.
6. Immediately spread the glaze over cakes, cupcakes, cookies, muffins or even ice cream. If desired and you have the time, allow frosted treats to sit for about half an hour before serving, to allow glaze to set.
7. Sprinkle wish flaky sea salt, if desired, and serve. Store leftover glaze in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
