Jersey Mike's is one of my favorite sandwich shops. There's nothing like a good club sub or hot Italian sandwich with potato chips. The sandwich restaurant is also known for having one of the best tuna salads. After doing some research and watching a video of an employee making their famous tuna salad, I knew I could recreate it at home. With this copycat recipe I can bring the sandwich shop home and spend less money!
There are only four ingredients in Jersey Mike's tuna salad. That surprised me. For some reason I always assume restaurant recipes are more complicated. The trick and secret to this delicious tuna salad is using two kinds of tuna – albacore and chunk light tuna. Albacore tuna is firmer and blends so well into the softer chunk light tuna. It is a match made in tuna fish salad heaven.
Here is your short gluten-free shopping list for this high-protein recipe: chunk light tuna, albacore tuna, fresh celery, black pepper and mayonnaise. That's all she wrote! Not only are there only four ingredients to shop for and less than 10 minutes of work, but you get the health benefits of tuna, the health benefits of celery, the health benefits of black pepper and the health benefits of protein in every tasty, creamy bite.
Pro Tips: Jersey Mike's drains the tuna very well. The video also said to always add the dry ingredients (tuna, celery, black pepper) first before adding the wet ingredient (mayonnaise).
You can make tuna salad sandwiches or tuna salad wraps with whatever sandwich toppings you like, serve it over lettuce, eat it with crackers or potato chips, or even use it as a stuffing for celery or avocados (avocado boats). Heck, you could even make it "Mike's way" with lettuce, tomato, onions and sprinkle with oregano, olive oil and red wine vinegar. You are at home ... do what you want!
Cuisine: American

Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 5 ounces (1 can or 2 poaches) chunk light tuna, drained well
- 5 ounces (1 can or 2 poaches) albacore tuna, drained well
- 3 - 4 ribs celery, chopped small
- 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
Here's how to make it:
- Put the drained tuna into a bowl. Flake well until it is in small pieces. Add the celery and black pepper.
- Stir well to combine.
- Add the mayonnaise. Stir. Add more mayo if needed to reach a very creamy consistency. Taste and add more black pepper, if needed. (Jersey Mike's tuna salad is very heavy on the mayo. If you like less, start with 1/4 cup.)
- Serve as desired. Store the tuna salad in an airtight container in the fridge.
