This easy honey and soy-glazed chicken thighs recipe is a simple and tasty protein for a weeknight dinner. The honey and soy become a yummy, sticky glaze as the chicken roasts in the oven. All you need to do is a short prep on the stove to make the glaze, spread it over the chicken thighs and pop it in the oven to create a wonderfully sweet and tender chicken dinner.
To make this glazed baked chicken recipe you only need seven simple ingredients. Here is your short shopping list: cooking oil, fresh garlic (check out the health benefits of garlic), fresh ginger (check out the health benefits of ginger), soy sauce or tamari (use tamari for a gluten-free dinner), honey, butter and chicken thighs (bone-in or boneless).
I made this Asian-inspired chicken recipe with bang bang broccoli and it was the perfect pairing for dinner. If you happen to have any leftovers, the high-protein chicken is great as a salad topping or added to a simple fried rice to spice it up.
Cuisine: Asian
Prep Time: 5
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Total time: 45 minutes
Servings: 8
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil (canola, avocado or other high-heat oil)
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 6 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce or tamari (tamari is gluten-free)
- 5 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 8 chicken thighs (bone-in, skin-on) or boneless skinless thighs
Here's how to make it:
- Place a small saucepan on the stove on low heat with 1 tablespoon of oil, the garlic and ginger. Stir every now and then until the garlic and ginger are softened, about 3 minutes.
- Add the soy sauce or tamari to the ginger and garlic and continue to stir for 10 minutes, or until it thickens a bit. (I like to use a wooden spoon or rubber spatula.)
- While the sauce thickens place the chicken on an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet. Season the chicken with salt and pepper, to taste.
- When the 10 minutes is finished turn off the heat and stir the butter into the sauce. Mix until the butter is completely incorporated and add a pinch of salt and pepper. (You could add some crushed red pepper flakes for a little spice.)
- Pour half the glaze over the chicken thighs and brush to cover the thighs in the sauce. Bake in a preheated 425-degree F oven for 20 minutes.
- Remove the chicken from the oven, brush with 2 more tablespoons of the glaze and return it to the oven for another 10 minutes, or until the chicken reaches and internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
- Serve drizzled with remaining sauce and enjoy! Store any leftover chicken in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.
