Lemon desserts are always a hit on 30Seconds. My dad's favorite lemon dessert is lemon meringue pie. Wanting to shake things up a bit for him, I decided to make this lemon dump cake recipe. This lemony cake is more like a pudding cake, and has a surprise ingredient melted in the middle: cream cheese. The combination is sweet, refreshing and hard to stop eating.
To make this cake recipe you will need just four ingredients. Here is your short and sweet shopping list: a can of lemon pie filing, a yellow cake mix, cream cheese and a stick of butter. The cake ingredients are layered in a square baking dish before being baked for about 35 minutes.
Don't think you'll be able to cut a piece of this cake like most. This cake is best served in a shallow bowl and eaten with a spoon. Serve the lemon dump cake for dessert or as a lemony snack anytime of the day. The cake can be eaten warm, at room temperature or cold. If you want to up the sweetness factor even more, add a dollop of whipped cream (lemon whipped cream?) or even vanilla ice cream if you're serving warm.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes (ovens vary)
Total Time: 40 minutes
Servings: 10
Ingredients
- 22 ounces (1 can) lemon pie filling
- 15 ounces (1 box) yellow cake mix
- 4 ounces cream cheese, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, sliced thin
Recipe Notes
- The cake is really sweet, so not only do fresh sliced lemons on top look pretty, but they help cut the sweetness.
- You can bake this in an 8x8 or 9x9-inch baking pan.
- Not a fan of cream cheese? Leave it out!
- Store any leftovers covered in the fridge. If serving warm, reheat in the microwave.
Here's how to make it:
- Put the lemon pie filling on the bottom of a square baking dish.
- Top with half of the cake mix.
- Put the cream cheese pieces on top of the cake mix.
- Top with the remaining cake mix.
- Place the butter slices on top, overlapping.
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 35 minutes. Remove and let cool for a bit before serving.
- Serve warm, at room temperature or cold.
