Creamy Cream Cheese Shrimp Dip Recipe Is the Best Cold Appetizer by Donna John

Creamy Cream Cheese Shrimp Dip Recipe Is the Best Cold Appetizer

My husband and I are members of a local seafood restaurant's VIP club where we get deals, points for free meals and a free appetizer each month. Every month they'll either spotlight an appetizer already on the menu, or you'll get one that they're trying to see how it goes over before adding it. This month is was a cold cream cheese shrimp dip.

Honestly, when they brought it to the table I was underwhelmed. It looked like a bowl of thick mayonnaise with some green onions sprinkled on top. Well, let me tell you that looks can be deceiving. This cold seafood dip was delicious. After digging in with the tortilla chips they served it with, I found not only big shrimp, but lots of green onions, red onions and ... flavor. It was gone in an instant.

I've found how to recreate this creamy gluten-free shrimp dip at home – and it's so easy. All you need to make this cream cheese dip is cream cheese, mayonnaise, green onions, red onions and shrimp. Add even more flavor with Old Bay Seasoning or Cajun seasoning. Serve this dip with tortilla chips, crackers or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Recipe Notes

  • For even more flavor, you could add some Old Bay Seasoning, Cajun seasoning or your favorite seasoning blend. I like to use Old Bay.
  • You can add the shrimp whole or cut into pieces if they're really big.
  • Fresh chopped chives would be a wonderful addition to this seafood dip.
  • You could add a little fresh lemon juice for a lemony flavor.
  • You can buy shrimp that is already cooked in the seafood department of most grocery stores. You can also buy it frozen. If using frozen shrimp, be sure to thaw and drain the shrimp well before adding them to the dip.
  • You could also boil shrimp for this recipe. Be sure to let it cool before adding it to the dip.

Here's how to make it:

  1. Beat the cream cheese and mayonnaise together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Stir in the red onion, green onion and shrimp. Season with salt and black pepper, if desired, or use Old Bay or Cajun seasoning. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve with chips, crackers or vegetables.
