Simple Sautéed Asparagus Recipe: This Lemon Garlic Asparagus Recipe Is Topped With Parmesan Cheese

Asparagus just feels like spring, so in honor of the change of seasons, I came up with this simple sautéed asparagus recipe. If the taste of asparagus isn't enough to get you excited about it, maybe the fact that asparagus is high in fiber and antioxidants, and may even help lower blood pressure, will.

If you're like me and find cooking asparagus a challenge (when I cook it, it often comes out too tough or too mushy), this easy lemon garlic asparagus recipe will be a game-changer. And it's topped with Parmesan cheese, just to make it even more delicious.

I served this easy asparagus side dish on top of rice and roasted chicken, and it added the perfect finishing touch. Happy asparagus season!

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 8 to 10 minutes
Total Time: 13 to 15 minutes
Servings: 4

  • 1 bunch asparagus (about 1 pound), washed and cut into 1- to 2-inch pieces
  • 2 - 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • juice of half a lemon (you can use a whole lemon if you prefer more lemon flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/3 cup freshly shredded Parmesan cheese, or to taste

Here's how to make it:

In a large sauté pan, combine the olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. Add the asparagus and toss to coat. Sauté for 8 to 10 minutes, until asparagus is crisp tender.

Season with sea salt and pepper. Top with the shredded Parmesan.

I love asparagus! I recently read that asparagus is also a kind of fiber that the body cannot process in the stomach, so it helps clean out the color and improve gut health. Win-win!
