If you're a Boursin cheese lover like me, then you may be looking for creative ways to use Boursin in your recipes. From appetizers to pastas and everything in between, there are so many ways to enjoy the savory flavor of Boursin cheese. This high-protein Boursin biscuits recipe with kalamata olives tastes like the Mediterranean! If you love the creamy garlic flavor of Boursin cheese, and the rich and briny flavor of kalamata olives, then I hope you'll love this high-protein Boursin biscuits recipe, too.
Boursin is a delightfully creamy herb cheese spread that's a blend of garlic, parsley and chives folded into Gournay cheese. For two years, a young French cheesemaker named François Boursin worked on his recipe inspired by fromage frais, a traditional French cheese dish that blends garlic, fresh cream, soft cheese and herbs. In 1963, François debuted his divine Boursin cheese and it became famous for its flavor and creamy consistency that's delicious on its own or in a variety of recipes.
This easy biscuit recipe is a wonderful complement to a healthier Mediterranean diet (learn about the health benefits of the Mediterranean Diet). In addition to Boursin cheese, it includes nourishing ingredients like extra-virgin olive oil (check out the health benefits of olive oil), Greek yogurt (here's why Greek yogurt has many health benefits), cottage cheese (cottage cheese is a powerhouse ingredient) and kalamata olives (learn why olives are a healthy ingredient, too). In only about 30 minutes, the biscuits end up crispy on the outside yet moist and fluffy on the inside – and so flavorful!
If you'd like to try these tender biscuits, here are the wholesome ingredients you'll need: eggs, extra virgin olive oil, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, Boursin cheese, fresh dill (check out the health benefits of dill), kalamata olives, onion powder, flour (all-purpose or gluten-free), baking powder, baking soda and salt. All you do is combine the ingredients, form the dough into circles then bake the biscuits until they're a lovely golden brown. So simple.
Serve these tasty biscuits as a side dish with your favorite dinner, for lunch with a fresh salad or dunked into a bowl of hot soup, or as a fun snack any time of day. We love them dipped into a mix of olive oil and balsamic vinegar – really good!
Cuisine: Mediterranean / French / Greek
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 to 20 minutes (ovens vary)
Total Time: 25 to 30 minutes
Servings: 14
Ingredients
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup cottage cheese
- 5.3 ounces (1 package) Boursin garlic and herbs cheese, at room temperature
- 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
- 1/2 cup kalamata olives, pitted and diced
- 1 1/2 cups flour (all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- black pepper, to taste (optional, but I used about 1/2 teaspoon)
Here's how to make it:
- In a large mixing bowl, add the eggs, olive oil, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and Boursin. Whisk to combine.
- Add the onion powder, dill and olives. Whisk to combine.
- In a medium mixing bowl, add the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the pepper, if using. Whisk to combine. (To make these biscuits gluten-free, use gluten-free flour.) Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients then stir to combine until it becomes a dough.
- Using a large spoon or your clean hands, form dough into 14 biscuits and place onto baking sheets that have been lined with parchment paper. Shape the dough into circles and flatten them a bit. (The number of biscuits depends on the size of circles you form. Be sure to leave an inch or two between biscuits since they will expand as they bake.)
- Bake in an oven that's been preheated to 350 degrees F until a crispy golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container.
