Choosing to Be an Intentional Father to My Daughters: Here Are 2 Books That Are Helping Me Fatherhood Books

Recently, I’ve been in the process of reading two really good books that are helping me better understand fatherhood.

  • The first is Shepherding a Child’s Heart by Tedd Tripp. The book teaches you what your goals as a parent ought to be and how to practically pursue those ends. It teaches you how to engage children about what really matters, how to address your child’s heart by your words and actions, and how communication and discipline work together when parents love wisely. This book humbled and reminded me that my children will be their own person regardless of what I do.
  • The second is entitled Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by Dr. Meg Meeker. It taught me that my daughters' worlds are fragile and tender, and I will knead their characters as bread dough on a cutting board. Every day journey and justice awakens, our hands will pick them up and plop them back down on the board to begin another massage. How we knead our daughters – every single day – will change and shape who they are, but still, they will be their own person designed by God Himself.

Sometimes I need to experience the lesson more than once before I fully understand what I’m being taught.
