How to Avoid Affluenza: 5 Parenting Tips to Raise Empowered, Not Entitled, Kids!

We want give the best to our kids, but sometimes – in today's affluent society – we may inadvertently raise them feeling entitled. Here are five tips to raise kids who feel they can have good things in life by working for them.

  • Don't give presents when you can't give time. This may cross to bribery and demanding kids.
  • Teach accountability. Give kids the responsibility for their own belongings, including consequences when it's damaged.
  • Model that happiness is more than “having stuff.”
  • Volunteer as a family.
  • Encourage your child to hold a job.

Start when your kid is young!
