Does "Snow White" Send the Wrong Message to Kids? Why the Disney Fairy Tale Is Being Attacked! by Meredith Schneider
Who knew that "Snow White" would be trending on Twitter this morning. Relaxing drinking my coffee and enjoying a fresh bagel, I almost choked reading about why "Snow White" is trending. Disney's "Frozen" star, Kristen Bell, claims the fairy tale is sending the wrong message about consent to children. That the prince should have asked permission.
As a mother of four, three being daughters, I couldn't keep quiet about this. We are talking about a 19th-century German fairy tale that the Brothers Grimm first published in 1812. He kissed her to break a spell. Again, it's a fairy tale. He couldn't ask her permission, she was sleeping. And again, it's a fairy tale.
Kristen Bell says Snow White sends the wrong message about "consent." Seriously? It's a fairy tale. This is getting out of hand. I grew up watching Tom & Jerry but I didn't run around trying to kill. There are bigger issues. #SnowWhite #KristenBell https://t.co/dNGQnnFqPX pic.twitter.com/iEFSUDvBVw

It is our job as parents to teach our children the difference about:
- good vs. evil
- right from wrong
- real vs. make believe
- how we should treat others
- how others should treat us
All comes down to common sense, in my book. Again, it's a fairy tale! Let's not pick them apart and make a political circus out of precious reading time with our children.
This has gone too far. What do YOU think?
P.S. In the original version, the prince doesn't kiss Snow White. One of the servants trips carrying her coffin and the piece of poisoned apple is dislodged from her throat.
Ugh now old #Disney films are under fire for sending the wrong message girls. I've never expected a man to come save me because I watched #SnowWhite but I've never expected woodland creatures to clean my house either.

Don’t worry the next generation of Princesses will just stay in a coma forever until they die. The Princes will be too afraid to save her life then get put on trial... #Disney #SnowWhite pic.twitter.com/tigylWWzVj
